This article provides the description of the effectivenes of Power
Point Presentaion, Movie Maker in teaching monological speech at high school.
The research focuses on assessing a range of possibilies that modern multimedia
techbologies can provide to education at school. The special consideration is
given to Morning Discussion as a tool for creating mini-monologues and
improving monological speech habits. It helps to develop logical and critical
thinking of students. The following aspect under discussion is an important
stage of mastering speaking which is supposed to be a Talk Show. Thus, the conclusion
drawn is that multimedia technologies are extremely significant for modern
teachers as they help to structure and diversify classes, stimulate learning
abilities of students.
The aim of the article is to give the theoretical basic of using Power
Point Presentation, Movie Maker as a multimedia for Morning Discussion and Talk
Show for effective teaching of monological speech at high school.
Monological speech presupposes logically organized, coherent and
communicative oriented speech act. Usage of modern technologies is an essential
part of contemporary teaching process. Thus, monological speech can be realized
through such format as Talk Show; preparing and performing macro-monologues by
using Power Point Presentation and Movie Maker.
We consider using programmes Power Point Presentation
and Movie Maker at high school to be effective because teaching monological
speech should be based on modern technologies. Contemporary students should be
aware of technological innovations, which can arouse their interest and thus,
increase motivation in learning foreign languages. As it is widely known that
motivation is one of the key issue in studying. Students recall higher percentages of the information they study
when they teach each other and are active in their own learning.
The most advanced and rapidly developing computer
technology in education is a multimedia technology. Multimedia - is the
interaction of visual and audio effects under the control of interactive
software. Numerous studies confirm the success of learning systems using
computer technology. It has been determined, that attention of a student during
training with a learning interactive program based on multimedia, redoubles as
a rule, so the time required for this particular material is reduced on the average
by 30%, and acquired knowledge stores much more longer. Students become self-motivated and are keen to
study.Their use in the training of monological speech with the help of presentations
and reports is the most appropriate and effective.
present time we can witness formation of new computer technology and students
have a unique opportunity to use multimedia tools for more effective learning.
For example, multimedia technology can be used to create electronic
presentations for their use at lessons of English. Moreover, these technologies
can help the teacher to introduce the material more clear with the help of
visualisation. In this case students will learn the material quicklier and more
fully. Today multimedia technologies are among the most called-for trend in
using computer technologies in the sphere of education. Their usage in teaching
monoligical speech with the help of such method as Morning Discussions is the
most appropriate and effective nowadays.
technologies are an effective means of intensification of monological speech,
as they can in an integrated manner include not only text, graphics, charts,
tables, pictures and photographs, but also sound, animation and video. Thus,
they combine the advantages of verbal and audio-visual support and logical
communication scheme. Their advantage is also that they can be conveniently
stored and optionally can be supplemented by any of visual information and
Power Point Presentation includes slides, which
should be organized in a peculiar order: the title of presentation, content,
main part and conclusion. It should contain text, key phrases and visual
support, namely pictures and photos. It is considered to be one of the most
representative ways to organize and introduce information. With the help of
Movie Maker Program students can also create their own video clips, moreover,
it can display images and text simultaneously with audio.
Talk Show as an important stage of teaching profound students monological
speech. It represents a creative approach towards foreign language and
motivates them to get deeper into the theme under discussion. It has much in
common with the role play. The participants should think over their speech
beforehand and represent macro-monologues in public in an audible, impressive
and understandable manner. In addition, students should react on speeches of
their group mates. Thus, this method helps to engage every student in the
interactive learning process, making everyone an active participant of the
Talk Show helps students to reach their potential by
emphasizing content, process, and production, and by using as many modes of
learning as necessary to engage their talents. This activity enhances students’
understanding and willingness to learn foreign language more than just a
traditional lecturing. It is crucial, therefore, for teachers to motivate their
students into activities that are as realistic as possible. Thus, students must
feel that they are learning English for practical use.
This issue is under the analysis of such scientists
as E. Passov, S.Nikolaeva, J. Soars, E. Goncharova, E.Iliin. The results of
their work need further detailed examination and application in practice at
Taking into consideration all facts we can suppose
that Power Point Presentation, Movie Maker and such form of discussion as Talk
Show possess such qualities, which in optimal way can increase the motivation
of the high school students in monological speech.
